For Gulf projects

Three-phase brake motors are covered by efficiency rules: in Saudi Arabia choose the IE3 AMPE… brake motors from 0.75 kW (SASO 2893). Motors for 460 V 60 Hz are available on request. For hot sites, tell us the ambient temperature so we can confirm the rating.

Frequently asked questions

How does a fail-safe brake motor work?

The brake is closed by springs and opened by an electromagnet. When the supply is cut – on purpose or by a power failure – the springs apply the brake and the motor stops and holds the load.

AMBY or AMBZ?

Both give high braking torque. AMBY has a DC brake fed by a rectifier and brakes smoothly; AMBZ has an AC brake with its own terminal block and allows a very high number of starts per hour, typical for lifting and handling.

When is the compact AMS enough?

When the brake only has to stop the machine (braking torque up to the rated motor torque) and the motor must keep standard dimensions, for example woodworking and cutting machines.

Can the braking torque be adjusted?

Yes, on AMBY and AMBZ in steps of about 33, 67 and 100% of the maximum by the number of springs. AMS has a fixed torque; +50% is available on request.

Do you have explosion-proof brake motors?

Yes – the RAEL BrakEx flameproof brake motor, Ex db for Zone 1 and 2, frame 63 – 112.

Need a brake motor?

Send us kW, poles, braking torque, brake supply voltage and mounting – or a nameplate photo – and we reply with a quotation.
